St Ives

It is believed that the name St Ives comes from the arrival of Saint Ia of Cornwall in the 5th or 6th Century. The word Ives comes from the Ia stem and is believed to be an anglicised version.

St Ives Art

St Ives is known for it's art scene. Many artists have travelled to the town for inspiration since 1928 when Alfred Wallis, Ben Nicholson and Christopher Wood met in St Ives and created the basis for the thriving art scene we see today. In 1993 the Tate opened a branch in the town to showcase modern British Artists work.
